SIOUX CITY -- Frank L. Shults, 80, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Frank was born Oct. 20, 1928, to Frank and Nellie (Brockman) Shults. He attended Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. He serviced in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 6, 1946 to December 1947.

He married Mary K. Benzink in 1948, they later divorced. He later married Barbara Baker on June 25, 1971, in Elk Point, S.D.

He owned and operated Patty Ellen Restaurant, the Pork Chop Saloon and Frank's Janitorial Service at different times throughout his working career. He was later employed with Cargill for 38 and one half years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and later St. Casimir Catholic Church in Sioux City. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, playing shuffleboard and horseshoes. He loved cooking for anybody on any occasion. His specialty was barbecue ribs. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time outside with his dog, Sammy.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Sioux City; his children, Tim and Kathy Shults of Sioux City, Gary Shults and Melissa "MO" Ehlers of Sioux City, Rayleen and Brian Sharp of Sioux City, Julie Trudell of Kanai, Alaska, Tracy and Tom O'Neill of Fredricksburg, Va., Susan Brandt of Sioux City and Mikki Smith and Rick Perera of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Reiling of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Gary and Theresa Brown of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Wilma Baker; a brother-in-law, Gary and Mary Ellen Baker; a sister-in-law, Margy and Jon Gallagher; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother at birth; a daughter, Kathleen Shults; his first wife, Mary K. Shults; a sister, Bernice Banys; and his father-in-law, Clarence Baker.

Pallbearers will be Tim Shults, Terry "T.J." Shults, Chris Sharp, Steve Banys, Ryan Rogers and Rob Leckband.
