Franklin Joseph Smith

SIOUX CITY -- Franklin Joseph Smith, 74, of Sioux City, formerly of Elk Point, S.D., died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, S.D. with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. A luncheon will follow the service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Frank was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Sioux City, to James Fremont and Iris (Guthrie) Smith. He lived in Elk Point in his early years, then moved to Sioux City, where he lived with his parents. At the time of his death, he lived at Park View Homes (Mid-Step) for 19 years, who gave him outstanding love and care.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Gayl I. Smith of Jefferson, S.D.; two nephews and their spouses, James F. and Amy Smith and David D. and Tracy Smith of Jefferson; three nieces and their spouses, Mary M. and Lonnie Inlow of Yuma, Colo., Kathleen A. Hutcheson of Jefferson and Melissa L. and Tim Provost of Sheldon, Iowa; a cousin, Virginia VonHolt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and 13 grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, James D. Smith of Jefferson; his parents, James Fremont and Iris Smith of Sioux City, formerly of Elk Point; and his grandmother, Vera Gleason of Elk Point.
