Fred was born March 13, 1940, in Sioux City to Roswell E. Hauswirth and Marie A. Sandrock. He grew up in Leeds, Iowa and attended Leeds High School. As a young boy he enjoyed working at his uncle’s farm in Le Mars and later started working in the service department at Kidder Knoepfler Chevrolet in Sioux City.
He married Patricia Foote in Sioux City. To this union 3 children were born, Michelle, Scott and Fred “Little Fred”. He later married Mary McCarville in Sioux City and had daughters Lisa and Debbie. Fred was a great man. He loved to work and began his long career as a route salesman for Hendricksen Distributing. That company then became Messer Distributing and later Glazer where he stayed to his retirement in 1997. Fred loved his route sales and enjoyed talking with all the farmers and small-town people and made many, many friends in all the towns he delivered to. Once retired he worked for 10 years delivering school lunches for the Sioux City School system, and later delivered prescriptions for Drilling Pharmacy, expanding his friend base even further.
Fred was loved by many and a friend to all. He had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to tease. The more he liked you-the more teasing you got. His favorite thing to do was to have his entire extended family together. The happiness on his face was unmatchable when all his kids and grandkids were together telling stories and having a good time. He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s city softball teams, watching the College World Series, spending time with his grandkids, having coffee time with his dear friends and having a cold beer on a hot summer day.
Left behind to cherish his memory and mourn his loss are his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary; sons, Scott Fullmer of Beverly Hills, Ca., Fred (Lamona) Fullmer of Linden, Utah; daughters, Michele Shook of Reno, NV; Lisa Hauswirth and Debra (Kelly) Conley of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Joshua, Nico, and Max Fullmer, Lisa, Jason, and Aaron Volponi, Brad, Roswell, Samantha, Cassie, and Haylie Fullmer, Abby and Tyler Breaman, Alex Conley; several great-grandchildren; and his best puppy, Lou Lou.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roswell; mother, Marie; father-in-law, Tom; mother-in-law, Berniece; and several dear aunts and uncles.
Rest in peace, dear Dad. Breathe free and no more “horse-pistols”. You are loved and missed more than you can imagine.
