G. Robert Chedester

SIOUX CITY -- G. Robert Chedester, 75, of Sioux City died Monday, May 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Robert was born July 20, 1933, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Milo Arthur and Malinda Kathryn (Thies) Chedester. He was raised in the Mapleton and Ute, Iowa, area and attended school there. After school, he joined the U.S. Navy. He returned to Mapleton after the service.
On June 27, 1965, he married Julianne Gunderson in Odebolt, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1965. He worked as a mechanic for Knoepfler Chevrolet for more than 30 years. He specialized in working on Corvairs and the Chevy Vega. He retired in 1995.
He was a collector of model cars, especially convertibles. He enjoyed fishing and attending auctions. He loved fixing up wagons and toys for his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff.
He is survived by his wife; his son and his wife, Patrick and Stacy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Christy and Andrew Davenport of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Maxwell, Madison, Olivia and Maria Chedester and Lexi Davenport; a brother and his wife, Vernon and Catherine Chedester of Sioux City; and a sister and her husband, Shirley and Marlin Gunderson of Kiron, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Levi, Elmer and Merle; and three sisters, Ardith Brenner, Izetta Coyle and LaVonne Uhl.
