Garie William Rusk, 72, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Casa de Paz following a brief illness.

Garie was born on March 1, 1944, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, to William and Betty (Carpenter) Rusk.
He married Linda (Patrick/White) Rusk on June 10, 1995, in Sioux City. He graduated from Wayne State College in 1966. In 1969, Garie became a teacher and was the head girls basketball coach for Hinton (Iowa) High School. He was a teacher and a coach for 25 years in Hinton. While coaching, he completed a 400-140 record. He was known to many as the Master of Disaster.
Garie was a loving and nurturing husband to Linda. He was also a great stepfather and grandfather. For many years, he enjoyed countless fishing trips with his friends as well as trips to Minneapolis to watch Minnesota Twins baseball games.
Garie is survived by his wife, Linda (Patrick/White) Rusk of Sioux City; his mother, Betty (Carpenter) Rusk; two stepsons, James White of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Robert (Jennifer) White of Urbandale Iowa; and five grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Bill Rusk; sister, Katherine Rusk; and stepson, Richard White of Aurora, Ill.
