SIOUX CITY | Garry L. Lovegreen, 67, of Sioux City passed away June 20, 2012, from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident in Florida.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Marie Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Garry was born on Feb. 5, 1945, in Auckland, New Zealand, to Harold and Jean (Lilley) Lovegreen. In 1946, he moved with his family to the United States and grew up in Rhode Island. He later moved to Duluth, Minn. He moved to Sioux City in 1976 and had been a resident here ever since.
He married Barbara Osborn on Feb. 5, 1995, in Sioux City. Garry drove an 18-wheeler for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam.
In his younger years, his passion for NASCAR racing drove him to find the need for speed in driving his own car for the ASA NASCAR in Wisconsin. When he moved to Sioux City, he was involved in stock car racing. His memorable moments were spending time with his family, camping and cookouts. He was a member of American Legion Post 125.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Lori and Doug Daniells of Moose Lake, Minn., Tim Lovegreen of Willow River, Minn., TJ and Amy Lovegreen of Willow River, Joe and Kathy Stowe of Sioux City, Lisa Stowe and Dan Cummings Sr. of Sioux City, Jim and Angie Osborn of Sioux City, and Dawn Lorius of Overland Park, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Lovegreen of Camp Douglas, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Paul O. Lovegreen.
