Gary Elden Funke, 70, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly Sioux City, died on Nov. 17, 2014, at Fairview Southdale Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Rupp officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Gary was born on March 28, 1944, in Sioux City, to Elden L. and Gladys P. (Burgett) Funke. He grew up and attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from East High School in 1962. He later joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving three years.
Gary married Judith A. McBride on April 4, 1970, in Sioux City. The couple made Sioux City their home and had two children, Angela and David. Gary later earned a degree in mathematics from Morningside College. He worked for the city of Sioux City before moving to Bloomington in 1994
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Judith A. Funke of Bloomington; a son, David Funke of Sioux City; daughter, Angela (Tim) LeClair of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Shane, Chase, Kaitlyn, Kolton, Aiden and Kendel; and one sister, Barbara Funke of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
