Gary Lee Johansen, 75, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are with Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home
Gary was born Aug. 30, 1937, in South Sioux City, to Arthur and Pearl Johansen. Gary was in the U.S. Navy, and served on the USS Midway aircraft carrier.
He married Joan Rymill Jan. 5, 1965, in Littleton, Colo.
Gary attended Morningside College, and graduated from law school at the University of South Dakota. He was a law partner at Johansen & Johansen with his brother Raymond, where he practiced for 33 years. He retired in 1999.
Gary was a devoted husband, and a caring, supportive and loving father. He had a passion for travel.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; his daughter, Michelle Johansen of Novato, Calif.; his two sons, Steven (Kenia) Johansen and granddaughters Kiara and Alyssa, of Phoenix, and Brian (Marissa) Johansen of New York City; and a brother Raymond (Norma) Johansen of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Cancer Center.
