SIOUX CITY -- Gary Melvin Rogge, 71, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, in Sioux City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to

Gary was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of the late Melvin Rogge and the late Charlotte Davis Rogge. Gary grew up and attended school in Mapleton. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, actively serving until 1961, when he transferred to the Naval Reserves in September 1963. After his service in the military, he went to work for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as a clerk in Sioux City until its closing. In 1974, he attended Sioux Empire Business College in Hawarden, Iowa.
Gary married Donna Beard Heydt on Aug. 30, 1980, in Sioux City, where the couple made their home. Gary later started and owned several different businesses in Sioux City for several years. He became a licensed insurance agent serving Siouxland and representing several different insurance companies. In later years, he worked for Gateway Computers before its closing in North Sioux City, First Siouxland Financial Bank, Winn-A-Vegas Casino for several years and Alorica for a short time before retiring at age 62.
His hobbies included playing golf, fishing, spending time at the Iowa Great Lakes, and getting together with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Rogge of Sioux City; three daughters, Michelle and Eric Halberg of Rockford, Minn., Heather and Scott Socha of St. Louis, Mo., and Cyndi Heydt of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Chris, Shaylee, Jacob, Caleb, Abby, Jonas and Felicia; a great-grandson, Kaydyn; two brothers, Larry and Laura Rogge of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jim Rogge of Mound, Minn.; a sister, Pat and Mark Reichard of Mapleton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
