Gary G. Sherman, 78, of Bountiful, Utah, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 3 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Gary Glen Sherman, the son of Glen and Evelyn (Cook) Sherman, was born on Jan. 21, 1939, in Beatrice, Neb. He graduated from Hastings High School and Hastings College in Nebraska. Gary was a sales rep for Amoco Oil for 40 years and also a sales rep for the CBS Network in Sioux City.
Gary married Linda Loth. They had three children and were later divorced. He married Jane Anderson in 2003.
Gary was a huge Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. Gary celebrated 35 years of sobriety on July 5, 2016. He also volunteered time and energy with both the Woodbury and Plymouth County Drug Court for many years. Gary's willingness to help others never stopped. He lived in Le Mars, Iowa for nine years and in Bountiful for the last four and one-half years. Once they moved to Utah, Gary also became a school crossing guard with the Bountiful Police Department until the time of his death. His kindness to help others was never ending.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jane of Bountiful; two sons, Steve (Michelle) Sherman of Denver, Colo., and Samuel "Rob" Sherman of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Susan (Ed) Hennessy of Sacramento, Calif.; stepson, Lyon (Debra) Anderson of Johnson, Kan.; stepdaughter, Lyndee (Curt) Staab of Carthage, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Gale (Linda) Sherman of Omaha, and Gordon (Sherri) Sherman of Hayes, Kan.; sister, Gloria (Bob) Englund of Minneapolis; and many other relatives and friends.
