SIOUX CITY -- Gaylen R. Lloyd, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Frank of Moville (Iowa) United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to christysmith.com.
Mr. Gaylen R. Lloyd was born March 4, 1937, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Robert L. and Elsie (Anderson) Lloyd. He resided in Battle Creek, Danbury, Mapleton and Inwood, Iowa. He attended schools at Battle Creek, West Lyons, in Danbury for junior high and Inwood High School. He served as an airman first class in the U.S. Air force from 1955 to 1958.
He married June Evelyn Shay on May 23, 1955, in Sioux City. She passed away March 24, 2003, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was employed with Wincharger following his discharge from the service. He started working for the Postal Service in 1959. He also worked at various grocery stores on a part-time basis. He also had a television and radio repair business in his basement.
He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and studying his Bible. He was a very spiritual individual. He had a great sense of humor and always put others first. He stayed up to date on current events. He loved hot sauce, the hotter the better. He died with grace.
Survivors include his sons, Joe and Kristi Lloyd of Inwood, Iowa, and Mark and Sally Lloyd of Brandon, S.D.; daughters, Penni and Brent Gilbert of O'Neill, Neb., Julie and Mark Mozak of Sioux City and Susan and Timothy Middagh of Worthington, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers, Robert, Paul, Harold and Gary Lloyd; and a sister, Gertrude Lloyd as an infant.
