MOVILLE, Iowa -- Gaylen Elmer Manker, 81, of Moville passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. A private family burial will be at a later date in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Gaylen was born on April 12, 1929, to Elmer and Edna (Thiesen) Manker in Sioux City. He grew up in Woodbury County and attended country school until 1942. He later attended Moville High School, graduating in 1946.
He married Betty Jones in 1955. To this union four children were born. He later married Joan Crawford on Nov. 20, 1995, with whom he added three stepchildren to his family. He farmed for Howard Logan for 30 years, and then later farmed for Rob Davis for 20 years.
Gaylen enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Joan at home in Moville; his children, daughter, Julie and Mike Duncan of Raymore, Mo., daughter, Cindy and Dan Davidson of Moville, son, Greg Manker of Moville, and son, Lou Manker of Raymore; 13 grandchildren, Shelby, Carly, Brad, John, Casie, Jake, Courtney, Britney, Hanna, Taylor and Payton, Josh and Jeremy Manker; four great-grandchildren, Alethea, Rayshaun, Colby and Brayden; stepchildren, Rick and Paula Farley of Spearfish, S.D., Steve and Jeanette Bergquist of Craig, Colo., and Valerie Guevara of Craig; stepgrandchildren, Josh, Jared, Cory, Tanya, Natalia and Rocky; great-stepgrandchildren, Zachary, Zaden and Zandria; his sister, June Corbin of Moville; his brother, Larry and Sally Manker of Sioux City; along with many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and a brother-in-law.
