SIOUX CITY -- G.F. Frank Humbert, 89, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Countryside Senior Living Center following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Schmidt of Augustana Lutheran Church officiating. There will be a Masonic service conducted by the Morningside Masonic Lodge. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Humbert was born March 14, 1920, in Oakland, Iowa, the son of Joe and Jessey (Siford) Humbert. He graduated from Oakland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater.
He married Georgia Geraldine Severson on Nov. 10, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kan. She died Aug. 28, 2004, in Sergeant Bluff.
Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he worked for Fluer Corp., where he worked in chemical plants and oil refineries. In 1959, the family moved from Pasadena, Calif. to Sioux City to work as a plumber and pipefitter for Jim Clark, the Hagen Co., then for the George Neal Power Station. He retired in 1983. After his retirement, he was employed with the maintenance department at Morningside College until 1989.
He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 18, where he served as a past president of the local. He also taught in the apprenticeship program for many years. He was a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union for 60 years. He was a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M. and a member of De Moley for many years. He also was an avid golfer.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Michael and Ann Humbert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Thomas and Julie Humbert of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Tressa and her husband, Aaron Huber, Kate Humbert, Genell Humbert, Aaron Humbert and Benjamin Humbert; and two great-grandchildren, Kiley Fridley and Hannah Fridley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a granddaughter, Tiffany Humbert; a sister, June Chambers; and two brothers, Louie and H.O. "Curly" Humbert.
Memorials in his name may be given to Hospice of Siouxland.
