SIOUX CITY -- George L. Haire, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
George was born March 20, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of John and Anna (Schultz) Haire. He attended Sioux City Public Schools. George joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
He married Lorene Erlimeier on July 14, 1947. They made their home here in Sioux City. Over the years, George worked for Wilburt Vault Company, People's Furniture, Everett's Furniture and Corn Belt Supply.
George enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard. In his earlier years, he liked camping and his horses. He will also be missed by his dog, Buddy.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene of Sioux City; two daughters, Linda and Vernon Brown of Sioux City, and Nancy and Bill McFarland of Westfield, Iowa; three sons, Michael and Moreen Haire of Sioux City, Steven Haire of Akron, Iowa, and Ricky Haire of Jackson, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Tyler Brown; two sisters, Evelyn Fiscus and Helen Remington; and three brothers, John Haire, Clarence Haire and a brother in infancy.
