George Olson

George Arvid Olson, 76, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1212 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. The Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. George was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Ponca, Neb. He was the son of Emil and Margaret (Pearson) Olson. He graduated from Ponca High School. George entered into the U.S. Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1961.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Coyle on June 30, 1962, at Akron, Iowa. The couple made Sioux City their home and raised five children, Robert, Michon, Thomas, Christopher and Jason. George was employed by Metz Baking Co. as a route salesman for 30 years, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Men's Club, and Knights of Columbus. George was also a member of the George Nelson American Legion Post 662 in Sergeant Bluff.
George loved to fish, play cards, and watch sports. He was an avid Heelan sports fan, and Nebraska, Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers football fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia of Sioux City; son, Robert Olson of Sioux City; daughter, Michon Wiederin and her husband, Kevin of Sergeant Bluff; son, Thomas Olson and his wife, Kim of Sioux City; son, Christopher Olson and his wife, Heather of Sioux City; and son, Jason Olson and his wife, Kathy of Sioux City; six granddaughters; five grandsons; two great-grandchildren; brother, Jon Olson and his wife, Joanne of Dakota Dunes; sister, Kristine Bergstrom of Sioux City; brother, Merlin Olson of Sioux City; and sister, Kathy Anders of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert.
