SIOUX CITY -- George W. Starr, 76, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

George was born on Jan. 10, 1936, in Delmont, S.D., to Harry Leroy and Anna Christina (Weiland) Starr. He was raised in George, Iowa, and served for four years in the U.S. Air Force.
He was married to Norma Hoffman on May 1, 1960, at St. John's American Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City. George worked at Sioux Tools, Sioux City Foundry, Swift and Company, and was the custodian for Morningside Lutheran Church for 14 years before retiring on July 9, 2000.
George was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening and watching NASCAR and football on television.
George is survived by his wife, Norma Starr; a son, Tim and Sheila Starr of Salix, Iowa; a daughter, Hope and Bert Bieler of Moville, Iowa; grandchildren, Darcy Starr, Jacob (Jaik) Bieler, Brandon Bieler, and Beckbackster Bieler; sisters, Marilyn Wienhiemer, and Carolee and Pete Cuperus; sisters-in-law, Jan Starr and Mardell Starr; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna; brothers, Frank, Keith, James and Richard Starr; and sisters, Shirley Davis, Helen Schmidt, Phyllis Fahey and Mary Bock.
