SERGEANT BLUFF -- George Walter Orr, 90, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Chaplain Steve Benson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. George was born May 26, 1918, at Weedland, which was along the Missouri River near Sergeant Bluff, the son of Roy and Daisy (Holder) Orr. He grew up and attended school in the area with his final years attended at Onawa, Iowa. George entered the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in the Military Police and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Bonnie L. Morter on July 4, 1942. Together they made their home in Sioux City and raised two boys, Byron and Paul. George worked for Mahoney Motor Company from 1946 to 1961, when he started working for the Iowa Highway Department until his retirement in 1983. Bonnie died April 30, 1995.
He was a former member of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church, American Legion George Nelson Post 662, the Moose Lodge and the Boys of '68. George loved to dance and attended many Senior Center functions during his retirement years.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Paul and Beth Orr of Sioux City, and Byron and Denise Orr of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a grandson, Justin Orr of Sioux Falls; three granddaughters, Becky Orr, Sara and Nick Deanda, all of Sioux City, and Holly Orr of Sioux City; two great-grandchildren, Skyler Orr of Sioux Falls, and Landon Orr of Sioux City; special friend and companion, Betty McCoy of Sioux City; two brothers, Raymond and Carol Orr of West Point, Neb., and Leo Orr of Sioux City; and a sister, Ruth and David LaFleur of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Daisy Orr; his wife, Bonnie; two sisters, Sharon Fox and Charlotte Maron; and two brothers, David and Ken Orr.
