SIOUX CITY -- Georgette Jean McGarry, 63, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital after being stricken at her home.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Merlin Schrad will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 5 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Georgette was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of James Carl Sr. and Vera Ruth (Sawitke) Fronek. She was raised in Cleveland and graduated from E.E. Root High School in North Royalton, Ohio, in 1966. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., after high school.
While in Phoenix, she met Daniel McGarry and they were married on Aug. 9, 1975, in Tempe, Ariz. They moved to Sioux City in 1976. Georgette dedicated her life to raising her children. She was involved in her children's lives, helping to coach T-ball, attend children's sporting events, cook and bake for her family and for family events. She could always be found in her garden or taking care of her lawn.
After the children were grown, she earned a CNA certificate. She also worked at the Wal-Mart deli for a short time.
Georgette had a great love for animals and nature. She loved making sure animals were cared for, whether they be her dogs, or the birds she fed outside. She raised cockatiels by hand and enjoyed taking care of her many fish tanks.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; her children, Angela and Spencer Woonsook of Pocatello, Idaho, Ryan McGarry of Sioux City, Meghan and Steven Brown of Macomb, Mich., Tim and Shannan McGarry of Bellevue, Neb., and Tara and Culley Kline of North Liberty, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Shawn, Zack, Kelsey, Danny, Fiona, Aidan, Colin, Connor, and Ashlyn; her sisters and brothers, Claudia and Fred Critchfield of Carrollton, Texas, Janice and Dennis Owen of Phoenix, James Fronek Jr. of Phoenix, Karen Fronek of Glendale, Ariz., Ron and Anita Fronek of Tucson, Ariz., and Kent Fronek of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Ken Davis.
