Gerald Barth, 86 of Sioux City, Iowa died on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church (located at 3204 South Lakeport St., Sioux City) with the Rev. Russell Senstad and Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov 30, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, the family will be present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm all at Christy Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel, (located at 1819 Morningside Ave, Sioux City).

Jerry was born July 3, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Orville W. and Emma C. (Meyer) Barth. He grew up in Bronson and attended Bronson Public Schools, graduating in 1954. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Dawdy, on October 7, 1956, in Lawton, IA. The couple had three children, Kathy, Jerry, and Kim. Jerry worked for his father at the Bronson Garage following graduation from 1954-1968. In 1964, while still working for his dad, he attended Morningside College for two years, then he attended Westmar College for two more years, graduating in 1968. Jerry taught for 1 year in Carroll Public Schools and returned to Sioux City in 1969 to work for Sioux City Community Schools. In 1972, he received his master’s degree from Iowa State. Jerry taught auto mechanics and traffic education at Sioux City Community Schools. Jerry retired in 1999 after 32 years of teaching.
Jerry was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was active as a trustee and was on the Evangelism Team for many years, a member of the Life Light Bible Study Group for 20 years. He was a member of the National Education Association, Sioux City Education Association, Iowa Vocational Educational Association, Iowa Association of Traffic Educators and served as a board member of the Sioux Valley Credit Union and the Retired Educators for many years.
Jerry enjoyed going to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Kathy (Ken) Weber, son Jerry (Donna) Barth, and daughter Kim (Dan) Lauer. Seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Doug) Berry, Nicole (Tyler) Postello, Brandon (Kari) Weber, Ryan (Kate) Barth, Jerad (Erin) Barth, Jennifer, and Amanda Lauer. Great grandchildren, Austin, and Brooklyn Berry, Reese, Amelia, Miles, and Adeline Weber, Crosby, Sophie, and Lottie Postello, Karli, Jeremy, and Blake Barth, Beau, and Hanna Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Goodwin and her husband William, his father in-law and mother in-law Ernie and Ruth Dawdy, brother in-law Jerry Dawdy and several nephews.
