Gerald Mead

SIOUX CITY | Gerald Oren Mead, 71, of Branson West, Mo., former Sioux City resident, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at a Springfield, Mo. hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Mead officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gerald was born on Aug. 11, 1941, in McGregor, Minn. He was the son of Franklin and Emily (Jones) Mead. He was raised in Bronson, Iowa, and attended school there. He joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and served until 1961. He was stationed in Germany. After the service, he returned to Bronson.
On April 9, 1961, he married Patricia Quick in Lawton, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City. Gerald was a over-the-road truck driver for 38 years. He also drove a taxicab in Sioux City. The couple moved to Branson West, Mo. in 1993. He operated a cab company in Branson.
He was member of the Baptist faith. Gerald loved fishing, hunting and was an outdoorsman. Gerald was a avid Cardinal and Vikings fan. He was a very kind and generous person and would do anything for anybody. He adored his family.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia of Branson West; four children, Debbie and Bob Slinkman of Anoka, Minn., Gerald and Rhonda Mead of Salem, S.D., Tammy Mead of Branson West, and Kathy Richardson of Merriam Woods, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Crystal (Ben) Yaekel, Robbie, Amy Slinkman, Amanda (Daniel) Hughes, Trevor, Heather, Kelli Mead, Taylor, Matthew Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Nikki Hughes, Thomas and Robert Hughes; one brother, LeRoy Ehrhardt of Sioux City; and one sister, Marilyn Holcomb of Humboldt, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rev. Larry Mead and Merle Mead; and a brother-in-law, John Holcomb.
