Gerald "Jerry" D. Moore, 83, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at a nursing home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Gerald was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of James and Marie (Moltz) Moore. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Central High School. Jerry joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and served during the Korean War.
He loved to play golf and was very good at it. Jerry also enjoyed bowling. He was involved with Golden Gloves Boxing where he fought and helped with matches.
Jerry worked at the horse tracks in South Sioux City and Grand Island, Neb., helping the jockeys get ready for the races. He was well liked everywhere he went.
Survivors include three sisters, Leona Buck of Sioux City, Helen Fornia of Sturgis, S.D., and Betty (Bob) Bowers of Sioux City; a brother, George Moore of West Covina, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Moore of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bob, Kenneth and Ronnie; and two sisters, Dorothy Hobbs and Delores Smith.
