Gerald M. Simon, 94, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at Holy Spirit Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Gerald was born on Dec. 26, 1920, in Lebanon, S.D., to Mathais and Grace (Clark) Simon. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant from 1942 to 1945, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Duffy on Nov. 25, 1948, in Garretson, S.D. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1999. He was later married to Yulanda Dickson on June 19, 2000. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2009. Gerald was the owner and operator of Simon's VITA-MINO Sales Inc.
He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of V.F.W. Post 46, and American Legion Monahan Post 64. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Paul (Connie) Simon of Kissimmee, Fla., Mark (Ellen) Simon of Overland Park, Kan., Nancy (Jim) Thode of Olathe, Kan., and Julie (David) Dalton of Mason City, Iowa; stepdaughters, Karen Fleckenstein, and Sherry Chamberlain; eight grandchildren, Megan Larson, Matthew, Nick, and Liana Simon, Brian and Kevin Thode, and Adam and Thomas Dalton; six great-grandchildren, Zeb, Aiden, Izabelle, and Eleena Larson, and Alexia and Hayley Simon; and a brother and sister, Royce Simon of Lebanon, S.D., and Victorine Schlezes of Rochelle, Ill.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives; and several brothers and sisters.
