Sioux City | Gerald "Jerry" D. Teusink, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, with his family at his side at a Sioux City hospital.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Jerry, the son of George and Estella Teusink and the youngest of six brothers and two sisters (deceased). Jerry was born on May 15, 1935, in Yankton, S.D.
Jerry grew up in Yankton and married LaVonne Strom on Oct. 2, 1954. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage. Jerry was a retired union boilermaker at Port Neal, Iowa. His work led him throughout the United States beginning in Yankton, moving to Pierre, S.D., Rapid City, S.D., Grand Forks, N.D., Colorado Springs, Colo., Springfield, Ill., and settled in Sioux City in 1965.
Jerry was beloved by his fellow workers. He was an excellent welder who loved his work. He belonged to several camping clubs and loved camping with his family and friends. He liked meeting new people as he was a very outgoing person. His hobbies were wood working and jewelry making.
Jerry is survived by wife, LaVonne Teusink of Sioux City; two children, Rick of North Sioux City, and Karen, of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Camille Rasmussen, of Phoenix, Ariz., Jennifer Carley of Sioux City, and Grace Teusink of Cherokee, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Camryn Sperry of Phoenix, and Phoenix Medina of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
