Geraldine Doris Moreau (Nelson)

Geraldine D. Moreau, 76, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel.

Geraldine was born March 8, 1931, in Sioux City, to Axel and Irene (Austin) Nelson. She was a life long resident of the Siouxland area. She attended and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1948.

She married Joseph O. Moreau on April 19, 1952, which was also the time of the big flood. He passed away June 5, 1989. She was employed with Swift Packing Plant from 1948 to 1952. She later worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for 16 years and retired in 1988.

She was a gifted musician, who started playing the piano at the age of four. After her retirement, she enjoyed singing with the chorus at the Siouxland Senior Center. She later fulfilled her life long dream of learning to paint landscape. She also volunteered at the gift shop and the Rehab unit at Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City for more than 2,000 hours.

Survivors include her children, Ardith and David Hild of Bryan, Texas, Peggy and Tommy Gunn of Kernersville, N.C., Matthew Moreau of Sioux City, Fred and Pauline Moreau of Vermillion, S.D., Monica and Kenneth Holland of Sioux City, Julia and Ralph Gelbart of Omaha and Audrey and Edward Knapp of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
