Gerritt Uit DeFlesch

SIOUX CITY -- Gerritt Uit De Flesch, 75, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at his residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill G. Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Uit De Flesch was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of John P. and Jenny (Van Der Grift) Uit De Flesch. He was raised and educated in Alton, Iowa. He moved to Sioux City in the 1950s and lived here most of his life.
He married Judy Marie Beal on March 4, 1961, in Dakota City. She died March 9, 1985, in Sioux City. He was a maintenance man and greenhouse foreman for the Harrison Greenhouse for 17 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and tinkering around in his garage on multiple projects; still unfinished. He also enjoyed and loved spending time with his family and friends, while keeping everyone under his thumb. We will miss him dearly.
Survivors include his seven children and their spouses, Chrissy Uit De Flesch, Bryan and Treasa Uit De Flesch, Lisa and Jay Hanish, Leon and Michelle Uit De Flesch, Terrie Ann and Phillip Swanson, Michael and Heidi Uit De Flesch, and Johnny Uit De Flesch (his youngest son); 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his brother, Everett Uit De Flesch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Christine Uit De Flesch; and a brother, Henry Uit De Flesch.
