South Sioux City - Gladys Pearl Funke, 94, of South Sioux City, passed away Dec. 19, 2013 at Regency Square Care Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1919, in Rice Lake, Wis., to Milbrey and Eva (Myers) Burgett. Gladys attended Central High School.
She married Eldon "Toots" Funke on Aug. 21, 1941. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1978.
Gladys was well known for her piano playing even though she had never taken a lesson. Music was an integral part of Gladys’ life from an early age. She loved getting together with her family and playing gospel and country music. Gladys was one of 10 children who were all musically gifted.
Survivors include her daughter, Barb Funke of Sioux City; son, Gary (Judy) Funke of Bloomington, Minn., grandchildren, Angela (Tim) LeClaire of Sioux City, David (Desiree) Funke of Sioux City, and Chad Bruneau of Sioux City; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Fay Chaplin of Salem, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon; five sisters, Madge, Hazel, Mildred, Edna, and Lola; three brothers, Dean, Donald, and Lynn; and an infant grandson, James.
