SIOUX CITY -- Gladys M. Jensen, 75, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Gladys was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Sioux City, to Harvey and Doris (Morris) Stokes. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Woodrow Wilson and Central High School. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
On March 2, 1951, she married Marvin Jensen in Sioux City. She worked at the Head Start program in Correctionville, Iowa, and the Native American Child Care, which was located at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City.
She was a 50-year member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She also was a member of the Women's Ministry at the church.
Gladys will be remembered best by the love she had for her family, her strong Christian values, the dedication that she had for her church and always putting others first. She was a great listener, supportive of others and was a fabulous cook and baker. She was a devoted wife and mother. She never knew a stranger and was a great canner and pickle maker. She had a good sense of humor and was a singer. She was also the family photo and motion picture journalist.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Donna Jensen of Sioux City; two daughters, Cindy and John Pacheco of Albuquerque, N.M., and Deb and Dr. Michael Murphy of Albuquerque; a son, Dennis and Sheila Jensen of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Stacey Roupe, Angie Miller, Meleshia Jensen, Luke Jensen, Colton Jensen, Karissa Jensen, Alyson Murphy, Trent Jensen and Connor Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Austin Roupe, Skylar Roupe, Kennadi Miller, Natalee Miller and Braxton Miller; and five siblings, Ruth and Dean Snyder of Sioux City, Harvey and Kelly Stokes of Sioux City, Donald and Mary Stokes of Sioux City, Walter and Connie Stokes of Fort Worth, Texas, and Doris Stokes of Eden Prairie, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dan Jensen; and two sisters, Eleanor Nielsen and Martha Switzer.
