Sioux City - Glenn "Geno" Benson, 81, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died on Oct. 15, 2012, at a Lakeland hospital.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Dan Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Glenn was born on May 9, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Glenn H. and Garnett (Carter) Benson. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. Glenn was a plumber and worked for Local 33 in Sioux City. He retired around 20 years ago.
Glenn married Lena DeFazio in Sioux City in 1950. The couple moved to Florida 13 years ago.
Gene was a member of Plumbers Union Local 33. He enjoyed fishing, car racing, motorcycling and camping. Family was the most important part of his life and he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Glenn had been a member of the National Guard in the 1950’s.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Benson of Lakeland; eight children, Mike and Renee Benson of Sioux City, Jennie and Don Eck of Sioux City, Tammy and Dennis Blackwell of Urbandale, Iowa, Vicki and Don Warner of McCook Lake, S.D., Todd Benson of Clarinda, Iowa, Teri Thomas of Sioux City, Penny Garcia of Sioux City, Geno Benson of Tampa, Fla.; 36 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Pry; and a grandson, Danny Eck.
