Glenn Floyd Kenyon, 68, of Sioux City passed from this life to his creator Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Glenn was born Feb. 9, 1940, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Lyle P. and Margaret (Hayes) Kenyon. He grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961 as the youngest crew chief in the history of the Air Force at that time. After his military service, he worked for many years as a union painter. It was during this time that he fulfilled his passion of racing at Huset's Speedway and many other places.
In 1981, he relocated to Florida, where he spent time with the Merchant Marines, another passion in his life. He loved being on the ocean, traveling the world and racing sprint cars and participating in peace and justice issues.
In December 2006, he reconnected with the love of his life, Eileen Brisky. They were joined in marriage on Aug. 11, 2007, in Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City, where he passed away peacefully surrounded by some of the family members who loved him most dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Sioux City; a sister, Roberta Christensen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Mike and Kim Kenyon of Prescott, Ariz., and Neil and Connie Kenyon of Sioux Falls; a grandson, Juan Carlo; beloved cousin, Rick and Lori Dump of Valley Springs, S.D.; special friends, Don and Patti Wilson, Jackie Wilson of Sioux Falls and Jim and Judy Donahue of Spencer, Iowa; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Verne and Dale Kenyon; and two brothers in infancy.
Memorial may be directed to the family in his name.
