Gordon Joseph Bauerly

South Sioux City - Gordon Joseph Bauerly, 62, of South Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tess Panamarrow of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City (Neb.) Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Gordon was born on Feb. 5, 1951, in Sioux City. He was the son of Allison and Viola (Harvey) Bauerly. He was raised in Lawton, Iowa, moved to Luverne, Minn., and then returned to Sioux City. He attended Lawton High School and then graduated from East High School in 1969. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Special Forces in Vietnam for 13 months. After the service he returned to Sioux City and worked for Wilson Trailer for a short time. He had worked at Gelita for 39 years.
He married Kathleen Albers, they later divorced. On April 8, 2000, he married Dawn Cantrell, his soul mate and love of his life, in South Sioux City at First Presbyterian Church. He was baptized in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Gordon was a member of American Legion Post 307 in South Sioux City, former member of the Kennel Club, where he worked with obedience training for dogs. He was a coach for his kids' softball teams and was an umpire for the Challenger League Buddies. He and Dawn bowled in Leagues for five years. Gordon enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and was known as Mr. Fix It. He would stop what he was doing to go and help anyone at anytime. He has enjoyed watching W.W. E. wrestling. As a young man, Gordon developed a love for farming and would help his brother on the farm anytime he was needed. He had a special love for all of his pets.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn of South Sioux City; three children, Jessica Zahner of Sioux City, Jason Bauerly of South Sioux City, and Joshua Bauerly of Hawarden, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Brooke Pedersen and Joe Felix of Jefferson, S.D., Amber and Scott Ellison of South Sioux City, and Jessica and Korey Moffatt of Sioux City; son-in-law, Joshua Zahner of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Koeltyn, Ashton, Raelee, Kierra, Khloe, Korbin, Kamden, Mason and Paige; his brother, Gail and Betty Bauerly of Sioux City; two sisters, Marilyn Harris and Barb Jensen; his in-laws, Gene and Elaine Cantrell of Dakota City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sally Bauerly, Rex Hanson, Terry and Charmaine Cantrell, Dynelle and Brett Downs, Jennifer and Craig Schmidt; and his dog, Walter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack; a sister, Anita Hansen; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Harris and James Jensen.
