SIOUX CITY -- Grace Louise Rowland, 75, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Grace was born May 17, 1933, in Hermitage, Ga., the daughter of Marlin Lee and Eva Mae (Woody) Helms. She was raised and attended school in Rome, Ga.
On Jan. 15, 1952, she married Robert H. Rowland Sr. in Rome, Ga. They later divorced. She came to Sioux City in 1995. She worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant. While in Sioux City, she worked for Matney Westside Manor.
She had strong Christian faith and loved reading her Bible. She had volunteered as a senior companion for many years and loved watching game shows on the television. What she loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons and a daughter, Robert H. Jr. and Cheryl of Columbia, Md., Michael A. of Lancaster, Pa., Phyllis D. and Steven Harrington of Sioux City, Stephen B. and Maria of Laurel, Md., and Randal Keith and Robin M. of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and James Helms.
Pallbearers will be Jessie Rowland, Robert Rowland III, Adam W. Harrington, Robert H. Rowland Jr., Michael A. Rowland, Stephen Rowland, Randal Keith Rowland and Steven Harrington.
In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial to buy wheelchairs for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
