Grace Elizabeth Stormer (Brenneman)

Grace Elizabeth Stormer, 98, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Countryside Retirement Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 4301 Old Lakeport Road, in Sioux City. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Ill. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Grace was born on Feb. 26, 1916, in Canton, Ohio, to Chris K. and Alvina (Engle) Brenneman. At the age of three, she moved to Washington, Ill., to live with her uncle and aunt after the death of her parents from the 1919 flu epidemic. Grace also caught the flu but managed to survive. She grew up and attended Washington Public Schools and graduated from high school in Washington.
On July 23, 1936, she married Wayne Stormer in her aunt and uncle's back yard under an elm tree. The couple moved to Chicago so Wayne could finish his education as an aircraft engineer. They later moved to Los Angeles, Calif., St. Louis, Mo., and Buffalo, N.Y., to work for various aircraft companies before returning to St. Louis to work for McDonald Aircraft during World War II. Grace worked as a secretary for McDonald Aircraft during the war effort.
Her hobbies included oil painting, playing cards, especially bridge and gin rummy, gardening, playing golf and making quilt tops. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Grace accepted Christ at age 18 and was a faithful follower for more than 80 years.
Surviving are daughters, Sandra and Troy Calhoun of Lawton, Iowa, and Christine and Gene Moniz of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, David and Pam Calhoun of Bronson, Iowa, Steve and Kristy Calhoun of South Sioux City, Pam and Gary White of Kansas City, Mo., Susanne and Doug Draayer of Lawton, Amy and Andrew Svolopoulos of St. Louis, and Carrie and Scott Clark of St. Louis; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne; a sister, Gladys D'Aloisia; and a brother, Clarence Brenneman.
