Gregory A. Moore

May 27, 1950 — March 8, 2018

Gregory Alan Moore, 67, of Sioux City, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Greg was born on May 27, 1950, in Sioux City, and was chosen by Jack and Gertrude "Lindi" (Lindeman) Moore to be their son. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, remaining a lifelong member serving in many capacities at the church and school including being a trustee. He attended St. Paul's Elementary School and graduated from East High School in 1968.
Greg served in the U.S. Army from January 1970 through January 1973. He served in Vietnam from August 1970 through February 1972 as a cryptologist, coding and decoding military messages which required top secret clearance. He received the following awards for his service including The Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, Expert Rifle, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
Following his discharge, he worked in auto parts sales at Belles Hess and American Auto Parts until 1982 when he was hired by IBP as an electrical worker. He advanced in the electrical department achieving the position of electrical engineer. After his retirement in 2012, he returned to Tyson Foods as an electrical contractor.
Greg enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and resumed both of these hobbies in recent years. Greg was also a craftsman with wood and built his own beautiful cabinets and furniture.
He is survived by his long term companion, Jeanne Carlson; many cousins; and numerous friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and his sister, Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Greg's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran School in his honor.
