Gregory Sands, 59, of Sioux City, passed away Nov. 24, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
Greg been cremated per his wishes. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tim Squier officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the services, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Greg was born Aug. 11, 1957, in Sioux City, to Darrell and Winifred (Miller) Sands.
He married Kim Roupe on Dec. 2, 1977, and to this union a son and daughter were born. Greg worked at MidAmerican Energy for 37 years until he retired due to his health.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and Miller High-Life Time at the shop with whoever stopped by. Greg was a diehard Oakland Raiders fan. Greg was admired by many, loved by all and known affectionately as "Papa Sands." The family requests that you dress casually, and if you’re a Raiders fan, honor Greg by wearing silver and black.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Sands; daughter, Sara (Chris) Anderson; son, Ryan (Nicole) Sands; grandchildren, Carter, Riley, Reese, Braydon, JoCee and Alexis; brothers, Steve Sands, Doug (Patty) Sands, Brian Sands (Deb Hoffman) and Jeff (Becky) Sands; sisters, Sharon (Jerry) French, Sandy Sands and Shelia (Jeff) Wheeler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Connie Roupe.
