Guy L. Oregon, 90, of Sioux City, passed away on March 5, 2018, at home.
Guy requested that there would be no services. He and his family want everyone to remember him as the loving caring man he always was.
Guy was born near Anthon, IA at home on March 4, 1928, to Ellis and Iva Oregon. He graduated from Smithland High School in 1945 and joined the Navy soon after graduation. When Guy returned from serving his country, he married the love of his life, Virginia Mae Burkhart, in 1951.
Guy worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Sioux City Journal. He retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation at 63 after 34 years, but continued to work at the Sioux City Journal until he was 85.
Guy was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine. He enjoyed playing cards, especially beating everyone at cribbage, reading and playing computer solitaire. Guy was an active member of his church. He was a devoted family man. Guy was a loving and caring husband and father of three. He will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, fun-loving man who could do anything for his family and friends.
Guy is survived by his wife, Virginia, whom he had been married to for almost 67 years; his three children and their spouses, Marla Jentz and her husband, Gary, of Fenton, IA, Karen Pierce and her husband, Rick, of Anza, CA, Mark Oregon and his wife, Sherry, of Sioux City; his sister, Marjorie Andersen; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Iva; his brother, Lawrence; and his sister, Lois.
