Hans Werner Jensen, 72, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Oct, 10, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation with family will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Per Hans' wishes, his body will be cremated.
Hans was born on Aug. 9, 1944, in Wisch, Germany, to Herman and Freida Jensen (Andresen). In 1952, at the age of 7, he immigrated to the United States with his family. In 1957, he became a naturalized citizen. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1964.
He married Jane Lawrence in 1965, from which they had two children. In 1990, he was remarried to Suzanne Cabney. During his career, he worked in several different fields, most prominently at Sunshine Foods and Kay Dee Vet Supply.
He always enjoyed and took great pride in his lawn. He was a big fan of the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Iowa Hawkeyes. But above all, he was a family man, especially proud of his children and grandchildren. It was a rare occasion when he missed any of their activities, whether it was a recital, a school program, or any of their numerous sporting events. He was always their biggest fan and supporter.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Jensen; daughter, Laura Bos (Chuck); son, Dave Jensen (Gina); stepsons, Clint, Bart, and Scott Cabney; grandchildren, Annie Jensen, Connor Bos, and Jack Jensen; stepgrandchildren, Nick Olson and Brandon, Mason, Kelsey, Christian, Alex, and Kennedy Cabney; and sister, Eike Marthaler (Doug).
Hans was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Liane Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff in the Oncology Department at Mercy Medical Center.
