Harlan Frank "Bud" Dawson, 92, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Bud was born on Jan. 10, 1923, in Washta, Iowa, the youngest of 10 children. After growing up in Grand Meadow, Bud served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. His service took him to France as part of the first light bomber unit there from the U.S. during the war.
While working in Sioux City following his military service, Bud met Joyce Swanson who became his bride on Sept. 26, 1947. Bud and Joyce shared more than 60 years together. Their family includes a son, Craig, daughter, Barb, and a big extended family of which they were always very proud.
Bud worked as a mechanical supervisor at Swift's until his retirement at age 59. He then continued working in his second career with his own company, Dawson Advertising Specialties Inc. In addition to being active with his work and family, Bud was very involved in his community. He sang in the choir at Grace United Methodist Church and as a 50-plus year member of the Nordic Male Chorus. He was an active volunteer with the Lions Club and Scandinavian Society.
Bud will be remembered by his family and friends as a good man who worked hard, cared about everyone around him, and made life fun. He was a man of great faith who was always grateful for the many gifts given to him. He had a big heart and quick smile, making those around him feel welcome and special. He will be missed by many.
Bud is survived by Craig and Barb, as well as daughter-in-law, Sue; son-in-law, Sam; grandchildren, Shelly, Nicole, Brian, Scott, and Amy; grandchildren-in-law, Chad, Gina, Jodi, and Jeff; and great-grandchildren, Easton, Addison, Ezra, Jade, Ashley, Patrick, Grace, Aliza, Audrey, Logan and Calvin.
