Harland Leroy Cummings was born on November 25, 1939 in Hartley, Iowa where he graduated high school and in 1957 attended college at Iowa State. He also met Mary in 1957 and they married 2 years later. They raised three sons.
Harland was passionate about agriculture and spent his life involved in farming. In retirement, he would often reflect on the joy his time farming brought him- it was, without doubt, a highlight in his life.
Harland enjoyed cigars, westerns, history, and most of all- hunting trips with his son and grandson. The multi-generational trio went on many hunting adventures from big game in Namibia, Africa; chasing wild boar in Texas; seeking out bears in Idaho; or just shooting prairie dogs in Colorado. Harland was adventurous and a good shot.
Harland was always eager to gather with family. He particularly enjoyed his time with his great-grandchildren. You could often find him at the head of the table with a joke or sarcastic remark- ready to laugh with you or at you. He had a charismatic, crooked smile and a quiet, but contagious, laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Cummings; sister, Maurine (Dale) Belz; his sons, Harland Mark (LaRae) Cummings, Terry (Peg) Cummings, Brad Cummings; his grandchildren, Colton (Michelle) Cummings, Nicole (Kyle) Burright, Ryan (Brittney) Mathre, Ryley (Kati) Hembry, Heather (George) Dutrey, Kristin Currie, Colby (Tacy) Cummings, Callin (Veronika) Cummings, Autumn (Chris) Carparelli; and twenty great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Cummings; his father, Harlan Cummings; his brothers, Maurice and Donald Cummings; his step-mother, Della Cummings; and grandson, Harland Jesse Cummings.
