SIOUX CITY -- Harold B. Davis Jr., 83, of Sioux City died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep Friday, Aug. 21, 2009.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Nester and his granddaughter, the Rev. Emily Davis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

Harold was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Table Rock, Neb., the son of Harold and Bernice (Carlson) Davis. The family moved to Newman Grove, Neb., when he was about 8 years old. He finished his education there, graduating from Newman Grove High School in 1943. He attended the University of Nebraska in Kearney, receiving his degree. He continued his education, receiving his master's of science in 1961. He did further studies at the University of Nebraska.
He married Opal R. Wolfe on Aug. 10, 1950, in Chappell, Neb. They couple lived in Kearney from 1952 until 1973, when they moved to Sioux City. He was a longtime educator in the school system in Nebraska and in Sioux City.
He was a member of Iowa Retired School Personnel, Retired Sioux City School Personnel, American Association of Retired Persons and Grace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Opal; a daughter, Susan Davis and her husband, Robert Jones of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a son, Steven Davis and his wife, Debra of Rock Springs, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Emily and Andy Oliver, Ashley Davis, Leah and Donald Henderson, Shawn Davis and Erica Davis; a great-grandson, Liam Oliver; two brothers, Robert and Carlene Davis of Sioux City and Norman and Marion Davis of San Diego, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Davis of Tracey, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Davis.
