JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Harold L. Fornia, 91, of Jefferson died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Care Center in Sioux City following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel.
Harold was born Jan. 5, 1917, in Woodbine, Iowa, the son of Carl E. and Laura Alva (Lewis) Fornia. The family moved to Jefferson when he was an infant. He graduated from Jefferson High School. He had lived in the Jefferson area most of his life.
He married Gladys May Tucker at Riverside United Methodist Church in Sioux City on June 19, 1946. She died Dec. 16, 1999 in Sioux City. He then married Helen (Moore) Collingwood on Dec. 22, 2004 in Elk Point, S.D. He was an avid farmer and owned and operated the family farm until 2004.
He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where he was active in the church, serving on many of the church boards and organizations. He served on the Union County School Board, the Union County Planning and Zoning Board. He also served on the Farmer's Elevator Board. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Jefferson; two daughters and their husbands, Carol A. and James Anderson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Janice L. and Keith Howard of McCook Lake, S.D.; four grandchildren, Jared Anderson and his wife, Kathryn of Woodbury, Minn., Jana Anderson of Urbandale, Iowa, Adam Howard of Plymouth, Minn., and Kevin Howard of Ames, Iowa; a great-grandson, Samuel Anderson; a stepdaughter, Sandra Trudeau of Greeley, Colo.; two stepgrandsons, Randy and Rick Rollison; a brother and his wife, Lauren and Mary Fornia of Jefferson; and two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Jim Duvall of Springfield, Va., and Doris and Duane Hanson of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and two brothers, Lloyd and Carl Fornia.
Pallbearers will be Jared Anderson, Jana Anderson, Adam Howard,, Kevin Howard, James Anderson and Keith Howard.
