Harold Joseph Wagner Jr., 75, of Sioux City died Monday, June 22, 2015, at Countryside Retirement Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. today at Sunnybrook Community Church, 5601 Sunnybrook Drive, in Sioux City, with the Rev. B.J. Van Kalsbeek officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until service time today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Wagner was born on July 28, 1939, in Sioux City, to Harold Joseph and Hazel Bell (Mathews) Wagner Sr. Joe grew up in and helped out in the family's restaurant businesses, Wag's Hut and Wag's Wharf. He graduated from Leeds High School in January 1958.
Joe married Geneice Woolworth on June 15, 1958, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City. He entered into the U.S. Navy on July 14, 1958, and was honorably discharged on June 13, 1960. Joe and Geneice moved to Southern California in 1961 and returned to their hometown with their children in 1974. Joe was a salesman his whole life, retiring from Fashion Floors/Carpet One in 2004.
He was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church since 1989. Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife after retirement. They traveled all over the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends. Joe was an avid Hawkeye football and NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his wife, Geneice Wagner of Sioux City; son, Harold Joseph "Joe" (Stephanie) Wagner, III of Obion, Tenn.; daughters, Lisa (John) Murphy of Sioux City, and Dana (Mike) Hinrichsen of Anthon, Iowa; five grandchildren, Josh (Cathy) Grimsley, Holly (Joe) Smith, Beau Wilshire, Kaleigh and Abigail Wagner; three great-grandchildren, Haley and Ashlynn Grimsley, and Jaycee Smith; sister, Barb (brother-in-law, Larry) Woolworth of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Krista Wagner (Bruce) Vicken; brother-in-law, Ron (Mary) Woolworth of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Joseph Wagner Sr., and Hazel Belle (Mathews) Brienzo; stepfather,Tom Brienzo; brother, David Wagner; father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Nellie Woolworth; and two brothers-in-law, Richard and Michael Woolworth.
