Harvey Eliason, 70, of Salix died Thursday, May 7, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salix Community United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Harvey was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Dupree, S.D., the son of Gothard and Inez (Horton) Eliason. He grew up in Lantry and graduated from Eagle Butte High School. Harvey moved to Sloan, Iowa, shortly before joining the U.S. Navy in January 1964. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
Harvey married Beverly Johnson on May 14, 1968, in South Sioux City. Together they made their home in Salix, Iowa. Harvey was a brick layer. He and his son owned and operated Eliason Construction.
Harvey loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and brothers. He enjoyed entertaining at his home, baking, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Eliason of Salix; son, Eric (Victoria) Eliason of Sloan, Iowa; daughter, Bianca (Jason) Gaspard of Omaha; three grandchildren, Kyle and Benjamin Eliason and Evelyn Gaspard; three brothers, Myron of Belle Fourche, S.D., Eldon of Salix, and Floyd (Margaret) of Mitchell, S.D.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd; sisters-in-law, Betty, Lola and Florence; and mother and father-in-law, Betty and Albert Johnson.
