SIOUX CITY -- Hazel L. Friis, 85, of Sioux City passed away Jan. 6, 2011, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Tinnell Jr. of the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at

Hazel was born on May 11, 1925, in Sioux City. She grew up and attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School.
On Feb. 14, 1948, she married Arnold L. Friis in Sioux City. After her marriage, she moved to California, where the family resided until 1952, when they returned to Sioux City. They had been residents of the Siouxland area since that time. Her husband passed away on Aug. 5, 2008, in Sioux City. Hazel was employed as a dietary manager for Westwood Nursing Home for 16 years and Countryside for eight years.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was very active in many different areas of the church. Hazel enjoyed crocheting, reading, crafts, making Christmas stockings, jigsaw puzzles, loved having people present and conversing with them and taking care of her husband and family members.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue and Max Jordan; three grandchildren, Chad and Shelli Jordan, Heather Tranmer and Shauna and Ken Hagestrom; five great-grandchildren, Mikai, Alivia, Kassandra, Devin and Maliah; and two sisters, Elsie Edwards of Arizona, and Alice Elsberry-Ludwig and her husband, Ron of Orange City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Trudy Larson; and two brothers, Harold Nattrass and Gene Nattrass.
