Hazel R. Hust, 88, of Bartlett, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, passed away on April 13, 2016, due to multiple organ failures after a two-week illness.
Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the services.
Hazel was born Feb. 15, 1928, at a farmhouse in Hall County, Neb., just outside Grand Island, to George and Elise (Buchow) Niemoth. Hazel graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.
She married William J. Hust at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Neb., on Sept. 26, 1954, and they later divorced. During her life, Hazel resided in Grand Island, Riverside, Calif., Beatrice, Neb., Sioux City, and Bartlett, Ill. She worked as a caregiver in the Senior Companion Program in Sioux City for over 17 years beginning in 1993. This was her fondest accomplishment.
Hazel was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. She was a voracious reader, loved assembling puzzles, staying in touch with family and friends, and Wii bowling at Victory Centre of Bartlett.
Survivors include a daughter, Dona (Robert) Bell of Lake Zurich, Ill.; grandsons, Eric (Krystal) Shook of Federal Way, Wash., Joshua (Jenny) Bell of Seaview, Wash., and Trey (Stefanie) Bell of Iowa City, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Sofia Elizabeth Bell of Iowa City; a sister, Betty (Vic) Olson of Lincoln, Neb.; nephews, Jim (Janice) Elrod of Grand Island, and Bob Olson of Mount Rainier, Md.; and nieces, Mary Jo (Ed) Wicht of Kearney, Neb., and Nancy (Russ) Wall of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; sister, Helen Elrod; and ex-husband, William Hust.
