Hazel A. Mason, 85, of North Sioux City, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Hazel was born on Aug. 22, 1932, in Wagner, S.D., to Samuel and Olive (Leasure) McCormick. She married Lyle Mason in Gregory, S.D., on Jan. 2, 1951. Throughout her life, Hazel was a homemaker. She stayed at home to take care of her kids.
Hazel loved to cook. Sometimes she even cooked in cafes. She received numerous compliments about the food she made. Hazel was a loving wife, mother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Lyle; children, Burt (Beverly) Mason, Kay (Peter) Kramer, Ival (Wayne) Andrews, Scott Mason, Jeffrey (Becky) Mason, Susan (Clayton) Merryman, and Cora Mackey; 39 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Douglas Mackey; grandsons, Johannis Marvin and Anthony James; great-grandson, Austin Collins; brothers, Harold McCormick and Nelson "Sub" McCormick; and sisters, Mildred Geuther, LaVelle Kreeger, and Shirley Ann Myears.
