Hector Mota-Escobar, age 52, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at a local Sioux City hospital.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Morningside Chapel Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Hector will be laid to rest in Monterrey, Mexico at a later date.
Hector was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on May 18, 1966. He grew up in Mexico and graduated from high school in Monterrey. After school he then spent one year in Compton, CA. Hector was united in marriage with Debra Darcel Popken on November 15, 1986 in Elk Point, SD.
They spent the next 34 years together in Sioux City. Hector worked at John Morrell for 17 years. He later worked as a carpenter for 16 years.
At an early age Hector enjoyed soccer, cooking, and having big parties. He became a U.S. citizen on April 21, 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Debra D. Mota-Escobar; daughter, Vanessa Mota; son, Hayden Mota; stepson, Antione "Tony" Popken; granddaughter, Abraxas Gomez; 3 sisters, Juana Mota-Escobar, Socorro Mota-Escobar, Gloria Mota-Escobar; 6 brothers, Victor Mota-Escobar, Raul Mota-Escobar, Fernando Mota-Escobar, Juan Mota-Escobar, Salvador Mota-Escobar, Ruben Mota-Escobar; 5 sisters-in-law; Chrys Smith, Linda Staebell, Desiree Toel, Melissa Bice, Jayne Staebell; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
Hector is preceded in death by his parents, Leon Mota-Ocon and Maria Conception Escobar-Rivera; sisters, Maria Mota-Escobar and Griselda Mota-Escobar; mother-in-law, Marlene M. Staebell; father-in-law, Cecil W. Staebell; brothers-in-law, Donald J. Staebell and John M. Staebell.
