Helen M. Asher, age 84, of Elkhorn, NE passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from a long battle with Dementia. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 30 at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes - Larkin Chapel located at 2320 Outer Drive North in Sioux City with the Rev. Michael J. Helen was born May 29, 1933 in Sun Prairie, WI to Paul and Anna (Haberman) Lawrence. She graduated from Menomonie High School. After high school Helen was a telephone operator. Later in life she held occupations of server at Bishop's Cafeteria and Soo Thrifty Drug Store, a production line employee at Brother's Paper Box Company and lastly a Custodian at Bomgaars.
Helen was united in marriage to Donald P. Asher on March 2, 1957 in Menomonie, WI. They moved to Sioux City, IA in 1960. They were blessed with six children and her main occupation was homemaker until all the children were in school. Helen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church until she moved to Elkhorn, NE in 2012. She enjoyed going to local plays, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. Helen always made certain her lawn was mowed and she had a clean car.
She is survived by her sister, Deloris Petersen of Rochester, MN; her children, Michael (Tammy) Asher of Kernersville, NC, Robert (Carla) Asher of North Sioux City, SD, Barbara (Christopher) Orlowski, of Rochester, MN, Douglas (June) Asher of Des Moines, IA, James Asher of West Des Moines, IA, and Beth (Corey) Heck of Elkhorn, NE; her several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 1990; siblings, Adel Koller, Rev. Reginald Lawrence and Marion Young; grandson, Preston Asher.
