Sioux City - Helen M. Burroughs, 65, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan.16, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nea Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Helen was born on Jan. 18, 1948, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Lynn Harold and Veronica (Lingard) Dean. She grew up and attended school in Spirit Lake, moving to Storm Lake, Iowa in 1963.
Helen married Joel Burroughs in August 1970. They made their home in Germany for a short time before moving to Ute, Iowa, and finally to Sioux City in the early 1990s. Over the years, Helen worked as a caregiver in home health care.
Helen attended Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and cooking, reading books about early Christian life and the Bible.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Burroughs of Corona, N.M.; two daughters, Michelle and Jimmie Amsden of Manning, Iowa, and Melissa Burroughs of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Faith Roeschke, Josie Amsden and Allen Burroughs; eight siblings, Jim (Connie) Dean, Veronica Eilenfeldt, Marcia (Larry) Pepper, Bev (Bob) Jones, Kim Dean, Tim Dean, Terry Dean and Dorene (Dan) Ehlers; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lori Dean; a brother, Gary Dean; and a nephew, Craig Ehlers.
