Helen Carter, 93, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Helen was born on July 19, 1929 in Sioux City, to Rafael and Soledad Manrique. Helen attended school through the 10th grade and then went to work at the Armour packing plant. Helen graduated from Central High School, 20 years later and also earned an Associate Degree in Graphic Design from Western Iowa Tech. She lived in Sioux City until 2021 when she moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to her family.
Helen was a very creative and skilled craftsperson. She had a home pottery studio and also made sculpted fabric dolls. She sold her pottery and dolls at various craft shows in Iowa and Kansas. Helen and her husband Ralph, enjoyed traveling and camping, visiting many US States, National Parks, Canada and Mexico. She also liked socializing with family and friends, being of service through volunteer work and singing and playing bells in the church choirs.
Helen is survived by her daughter Carmen, grandson and granddaughter-in-law Eric and Samantha and great-granddaughter Lauren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her parents, and her siblings Jean, Vicki, Joseph and Ralph Jr.
Helen was loved by her family and friends and will be missed dearly.
