Helen Chicoine
JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Helen M. Chicoine, 99, of Jefferson went to be with her lord on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roerich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Helen was born on April 4, 1912, to James R. and Beulah B. Gallagher in Sioux City. She had three siblings, Walter, Joyce and Dudley, who preceded her in death. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1930.
On Sept. 10, 1935, she married the love of her life, Adrian J. Chicoine. They farmed in Jefferson area for 59 years before moving to town in 1984. They were active members of St. Peter Catholic Church. Helen and Adrian had three children, Jim (Mary) Chicoine, Joyce (John Ron) McClintock and Marie (Deene) Spieler. Jim and Mary were killed in an auto accident in 1970. Helen and Adrian raised their three children.
Helen was a member and past president of St. Peter's Mothers Club and the Altar Society. She was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Amigo Club.
She is survived by Mike Chicoine and his boys, James and Tyler; Lori Schaefer and her children, Katie, Ryan and Nate; Brad Chicoine and his children, Katherine, Jeffery J.; Dr. Theresa (McClintock) Van Soelen (Keith), their daughter, Adriana; Kassie McClintock; Dr. Jean McClintock-Boyer (Rob), their children, Caitlyn and Connor John; Jim and Kristen McClintock; Kurt (Joanna) Spieler and their children, Danielle and Logan; Kim (Steve) Baltes and their children, Kaylie (Josh), Bethany; Kerri (Rick) Reed and their children, Taylor, Riley and Toby; and many dear nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed for masses or for the St. Peter Community Center.
